Backup and Recovery
Backup and recovery, proved by a restore. A schedule on its own is a hope.

The backup that has never been opened is a rumour. We agree what must come back, how fast, and where it lives, then we open one and see.
Mail, files, the till export, the student record and the server in the cupboard are different jobs. We will not sell one setting and call it all of them.
A restore is part of the year, not a crisis. If it fails in the test, that is the work. If it fails on the day you need it, that is a different and worse conversation.
What that includes
- What must be recoverable, and how quickly
- Backups for mail, files and the systems that hold the record
- A restore that has been done, not only scheduled
- The off-site copy, so one room is not the whole risk
- A note of the last test, in language a manager can read
Questions
How do you know a backup works?
We open it. A schedule that has never been restored is a rumour.
What is included?
Mail, files, and the system that holds the record. A till export and a student register are different jobs, and we will not pretend one setting covers both.
Where does the copy live?
Off the site, so one room is not the whole risk. You can ask to see the last test.
